MVPstats Help — Sample Size

This Form generates sample size for tests of Means, Variances, Proportions, Rates, ANOVAs, and Correlation.

Speed Buttons

These buttons provide quick access to the following tasks.
Returns to last Form or the Main Form.
Saves the output to a file.
Prints the Text.
Copies Selection to the clipboard.
Pastes Text from the clipboard
Enlarges/Reduces Form size for easier viewing.
Brings up the Main Form.
Brings up the Help file.
Hides the form.

Means Sample Size

Select this tab to generate sample sizes for One and Two-Sample Means tests.

Variance Sample Size

Select this tab to generate sample sizes for Estimation of a variance or standard deviation, or for One and Two-Sample Variance tests.

The following inputs will be displayed. Enter Alpha, Beta, and the ratio of the Standard Deviations (s1/s2). For One-Sample tests, s2 is the alternative value.

Proportion Sample Size

Select this tab to generate sample sizes for Estimation of a Proportion, or for One and Two-Sample Proportion tests.

The following inputs will be displayed. Enter Alpha, Beta, and the Proportions (Pi1/Pi2). For One-Sample tests, Pi(2) is the alternative value.

Rate Sample Size

Select this tab to generate sample sizes for Estimation of a Rate, or for One and Two-Sample Poisson Rate tests.

The following inputs will be displayed. Enter Alpha, Beta, and the Rates (Lambda1 and Lambda2). For One-Sample tests, Lambda2 is the alternative value.

ANOVA Sample Size

Select this tab to generate sample sizes for ANOVA.

The following inputs will be displayed. Enter Alpha, Beta, Sigma, Delta, and the number of levels or cells of interest.

Alpha

Enter the desired Alpha value here.

Beta

Enter the desired Beta value here.

Sigma

Enter an estimate of the population standard deviation here.

Delta

Enter Delta, the difference in means sought, here.

Sample Number

Select whether a one or two-sample test is desired here.

Tails

Select whether a directional or non-directional test is to be conducted.

Power Checkbox

When this box is checked, a Sample Size (n) edit box will appear. Power will be calculated, based on the entered sample size.

Output Text

The calculation output is displayed here when

is clicked. You may save, print, edit, cut, copy, and paste text in this area.

Action Button

Performs calculations and displays output.

Correlation Sample Size

Select this tab to generate sample sizes for Estimation of a correlation, or for correlation tests.

The following inputs will be displayed. Enter Alpha, Beta, Rho(0), and Rho(1).
